End of Year Schedule

Hello again friends. I accidentally looked at a calendar this morning and realized Shytscram and the “holiday season” is stalking me; whether I want to care or not. At this time I’d like to thank my blessings that this year I probably won’t slip off the back porch and break a bone in my back again, but there’s still time for the universe to throw me a curveball. As you may have gathered, I can’t say I’m looking forward to Christmas and New Year’s Day this year, but I do sincerely hope all of you are able to enjoy this society-wide disruption of our collective routines. If nothing else, I promise to toss back some eggnog in your honor.

Ultimately, I’ve decided to keep my holiday break short this time; I’m going keep writing all the way up to December 20th, or the 21st, and then I’ll probably be back on January 3rd, or the 4th. It took me a long time to get my routine back after losing the summer to illness and I don’t want to repeat that process; I need a rest, but not a disruption. I should also warn you that since I have no spare time to do website page updates, I usually do them over the holiday break; so you may get annoying emails about published pages and what not. If I could turn the auto-mailer off for this? I would.

Otherwise, I’d say things are going well. Moving all of my online work here to NIDC is working out okay, I’m making new friends on Mastodon, and I haven’t fallen back into a pit of sadness. I’m publishing analysis almost every weekday; including some longer essays finally! Of course, the world continues to burn all around me, but I’m still throwing ‘bows.

Sundry Day

Unfortunately, the necessary sundering of Elon Musk’s increasingly fascist Twitter, has put me in a bit of a quandary. Many of my readers have chosen to follow me to Mastodon, but a significant number of folks are still interacting with me and my work exclusively through other platforms; namely Discord and Facebook. This makes it difficult to use some specific other website to post updates, policy explainers, and other obnoxious quality of life or informational posts; all my friends and associates are in different online spaces. I have no desire to publish this information here on NIDC, but I’m quite frankly out of good alternatives.

Obviously, I’m just going to have to swallow my pride and post all that junk here. Since I don’t really want to annoy the majority of my readers, who probably don’t care about things like my posting policies on Mastodon, when I’m returning to my free Patreon Blog, and what the difference is between a “Nina-Bytes” blog and a “Recommended Reading” essay, I’ve come up with a compromise. I’ve decided to only publish these posts, and updates like this one, on Sundays; and only if necessary. Typically I take Sundays off entirely, so it won’t affect my content production. If you understandably loathe this crap? Just don’t click on Sunday link notifications from NIDC.

Alrighty then folks, that’s more or less what I came here to say. I’m still dealing with a lingering back injury, so I think I’ll take a little old lady recovery nap this afternoon. Hopefully you all do find something worth enjoying this holiday season; and we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
