Kropotkin’s Barbershop Episode 1: For Domestic Consumption Only
Editor’s note: Kropotkin’s Barbershop is a current affairs, roundtable discussion program from a left wing perspective. Hosted by Nina Illingworth and Charles Minnich, this bi-weekly podcast also features writer Chris Walker, and producer Adam Scriven. Always anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, and anti-white supremacist, our podcasting foursome tackles life in a neofeudalist dystopia in a presentation you won’t want to miss.
No Clean Shot
Well my friends; if this isn’t a little awkward, I don’t know what is. As I mentioned in a recent site update post, I’m both behind on my schedule and struggling to get back to regular writing. Consequently, these show notes are for a KBS episode we released three weeks ago. Punctuality is clearly not my specialty; and the back injury isn’t helping much either.
Further complicating matters is the fact that the news cycle has rocketed forward since we recorded this show. Released before Russian forces invaded Ukraine, “For Domestic Consumption Only” is an episode about why capitalists in the Pig Empire would love a new Cold War. Unfortunately, despite my prediction otherwise, Putin’s invasion has turned that war into a very hot one; particularly for innocent labor class Ukrainians.
Obviously, I’m not thrilled about getting the answer so tragically wrong. Ultimately however this episode is not about whether or not a Russian invasion of Ukraine would happen, but rather why the establishment would profit greatly from a prolonged war footing between the Pig Empire and Russia. The fact that Putin gave our corpse merchants everything they could have hoped for simply by invading, changes very little about the outcome for the average prole in the West.
In that light, I hope you won’t mind me sharing it here; despite the fact that this post is a day late, and the analysis is a dollar short. If you’d rather just skip ahead and hear the KBS crew discuss the fallout from Putin’s invasion instead, you can find that episode here; I should have the full splash page up by tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

“War with Russia at the Ukraine border is essential from the neoliberal point of view; but the choice of enemy or battlefield has no bearing on that reality whatsoever. Join Nina, Charles, Adam, and Walker for the first regular episode of Kropotkin’s Barbershop.”
