Film Sessions: Capitalism and a World on Boil
Editor’s note: welcome back to Film Sessions; our quasi-regular feature on Media Madness in which I share, analyze and expand on a relevant video created by someone on the left wing of YouTube.
The Machine Can Only Exploit
In this edition of Film Sessions, we return again to the work of left wing YouTube creator creator JT Chapman , who produces content under the handle Second Thought. This time however there’s a bit of a twist, because I’ve chosen to analyze and share three short but interrelated videos from Chapman’s channel. Today we’re primarily talking about why maintaining capitalism is completely incompatible with averting climate catastrophe. Along the way however, we also take a look at Second Thought videos that explore the burgeoning issue of water imperialism, and the logical reason why it does not matter if you believe man is responsible for climate change.
This is no orginary fight; it’s a battle for the future and indeed, our survival. The chips are down and the clock is ticking; it’s capitalism or the species this time. The people must win, because if they don’t there may not be any people left at all. It’s going to be a harrowing ride, but every day we’re learning that if we can just end capitalism, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
“The situation is, to put it politely, extremely fucking bad. Furthermore the problem is rapidly going to get much worse, our models may have underestimated just how horrifying the effects of boiling the planet might actually be, and we have precious few years to completely alter human energy production before any number of tipping points are reached. Despite the paid ravings of fossil fuel propagandists, our shared Earth is quite simply a planet on the brink, and the primary culprit is of course our old friend capitalism.”
