Film Sessions: Does Capitalism Really Reduce Poverty (Link)
Editor’s note: every weekend (more or less) I watch, share and analyze a video from the growing collection of left wing Youtube channels and creators over on my Media Madness blog; this weekend we’re going back to back to basics with The Gravel Institute and one of my favorite voices in the online discourse, professor Richard D. Wolff.

After an extended Christmas break, those rascal “Gravel Teens” have continued their war on reactionary propaganda mill PragerU by dropping a new, six minute video asking the simple (but revealing) question “Does Capitalism Actually Reduce Poverty?” Furthermore, the new Gravel Institute video stars Marxist economist Richard D. Wolff; easily one of my favorite analysts and presenters on the left – to say that in this latest film session post, we “stan” a lefty Youtube legend, would be a serious understatement. Join me over on Media Madness for a fun, blog-style discussion containing numerous relevant citations, in which I geek out a little bit about professor Wolff’s work and talk about why videos like this latest Gravel Institute offering are finally starting to show a way forward in the war against PragerU.
“Over the past ten or so years, professor Wolff has lead the pack among left wing academics embracing the power of the internet to argue class politics and socialist economic positions in plain and accessible language, literally anywhere, anytime they’ll let him on camera. In addition to his scholarly pursuits and the books he’s written, Wolff’s work includes a cornucopia of online videos, countless interviews and numerous debates; it is quite frankly pretty hard to crawl Left Wing Youtube for very long without running into a video featuring Wolff.”
