Link: The Skinny – Crisis And Class War, April 2020
Editor’s note: the world keeps on turning and that means we’re back with another edition of The Skinny on my free Patreon blog; a semi-regular collection of my social media essays from around the internet. As always, social media content featured in The Skinny is re-worked, clarified, and cleaned up before publication – at least to the best of my abilities in the moment.
Crisis Management as Eugenics and Class War
It’s been said that in the hour of our collective peril, it will grow darkest, just before the dawn. Well, I don’t know about you folks, but I’m just about ready for some of that daylight to creep through because the situation for the labor class in America is growing very dark indeed. Smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em, I guess.
In today’s edition of The Skinny, we’re looking at various aspects of the class war as they exhibit themselves in our everyday news events. Join me as I explore the coronavirus response as a form of economic segregation, the importance of organizing around class for the American left, and why calls for Bernie Sanders to drop out are just par for the course in an already illegitimate Democratic Party nomination contest.
“The second and only slightly less obvious conclusion one must reach after examining the coronavirus relief measures our leaders are currently enacting, is that the rich people and corporations who truly own our various governments absolutely do not give a flying fuck whether or not people in the labor class live or die; in fact, most of them seem to perceive some sort of culling as a preferable alternative to abandoning fossil fuels or wealth redistribution of any kind.”
