The Skinny: Warring With Warren and Fake Labor Class Outreach
Editor’s note: after numerous battles with online censorship, and over four years of procrastinating, I’m finally getting around to reorganizing my website. As part of that process, I’m slowly posting links to older content that might be hard to find otherwise. While this activity might best be described as excruciating, it does make it easier to find and reference my work.
Please bear with me in the meantime and thanks for all your support.
Snake and Ladders
Well folks; it only took me six tries, but on October 1st, 2019, I finally managed to publish an edition of The Skinny that featured three posts about more or less the same topic – in this case, Democratic Party internal politics. After growing weary of the canonization of Liz Warren in the lead up to the 2020 Democratic Party Primary contest, I dived into the weeds on both Warren’s claim of Indigenous ancestry, and her supposed radicalization as a left wing crusader; unsurprisingly, both suppositions were found wanting. Of course, the nomination contest is long over, but given Warren’s continued high profile in the sitting Biden Administration, it’s always nice to have the receipts on hand for when you need them.
More importantly, I also devoted the closing portion of this Skinny to an honest discussion about how Democratic Party politicians use pre-existing racism in the white labor class as an excuse to further neoliberal economic policies. The simple truth is that you don’t win working class voters over by giving them policies that harm the entire labor class, white or otherwise; and it’s time to stop pretending the Midwestern swing voter isn’t an extinct species.
“It’s not; it’s a deliberate strategy to protect the rich and to protect Democratic Party politicians who support policies that harm the labor class on behalf of the rich, and nothing more. In fact none of the awful and often vaguely racist shit elite Democrats tell you they do to appeal to “undecided moderate right-leaning swing voters” is really about peeling off working class folks who usually vote GOP. You appeal to working class voters who vote Republican the same way you appeal to working class voters who’ve been voting Democrat and are unsatisfied with the returns on that investment – you give them something they want more than what the other guy is offering; which in the GOP’s case is mostly racism and the culture war.”
