Of course, some re-posts are more painful than others; in light of Matt Taibbi’s bizarre turn towards cancel culture paranoia and the fact that the path to victory I predicted for Sanders in this article collapsed after South Carolina, this didn’t turn out to be one of my better pieces of analysis. Still, you have to own your mistakes as well as your triumphs, so I’m mostly posting it here for completeness.

Insane Clown President & How Bernie Wins

Do you remember when we had hope that this time, it might be different? It seems like a billion years ago today of course; after the coronavirus, a primary contest you will literally never convince me wasn’t rigged against Bernie Sanders, and Trump’s fascist election plot to retain power – but before it all came undone on Super Tuesday, we had hope. On February 9th of 2019, I combined this short book review of Matt Taibbi’s (still quite good) Insane Clown President, with an attempt to game out how Bernie could actually win the 2020 Democratic Party nomination contest. And for one glorious month, and three beautiful primaries that strategy played out perfectly… until the roof came crashing in on us all.
